Telecom and transport terms, explained

Short, plain definitions of the words you will see on this site and in the app.

Auto-attendant (IVR)
An automated menu that answers calls and routes callers, for example "Press 1 for bookings". On the GT Connect roadmap.
Blind transfer
Passing a call to a colleague without speaking to them first. In beta in GT Connect.
Call park
Putting a call on hold in a shared slot so anyone can pick it up from another device. Coming soon.
Call queue
A line where callers wait for the next free agent. On the roadmap.
DLT registration
The registration system for business SMS senders and templates in India. Needed before sending commercial SMS.
DTLS-SRTP
The encryption used by WebRTC calls. DTLS sets up the keys; SRTP encrypts the audio and video.
Extension
A short internal number or name that identifies a person on the company phone system.
LR (lorry receipt)
The consignment note issued by a transporter when goods are booked, used to track the shipment.
Number masking
Letting a driver and a customer talk without either seeing the other's real number. On the roadmap.
POD (proof of delivery)
A signed document or photo confirming that goods were delivered.
Presence
A live indicator showing whether someone is available, on a call, away or not to be disturbed.
PSTN
The public switched telephone network: ordinary mobile and landline numbers.
PWA (progressive web app)
A website that can be installed and opened like an app on phones and computers.
Push-to-talk
Walkie-talkie style voice messages to a group, sent by holding a button. Coming soon.
Ring group
A set of people whose phones all ring for one incoming call. Coming soon.
SIP trunk
A connection from a phone system to a telecom provider that carries calls to and from real numbers.
TMS
Transport management system: software for bookings, trips, vehicles and billing.
TURN relay
A server that forwards encrypted call traffic when a direct connection between devices is blocked.
Warm transfer
Speaking to a colleague first, then passing the call to them. Coming soon.
WebRTC
The real-time communication technology built into modern browsers, used by GT Connect for calls.
